We know that one of the three plagues suffered by people is loneliness. If you would like to have a visit, go out with someone to do something in the community, or just want to have a cup o tea with a friendly face, we can tailor make a plan for you.

 

Eligibility:

Individuals and their carers living in the community. You must be 65 years of age or over or 50+ years if you are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

The Social Support program covers the whole of the Northern Rivers from the Tweed down through Byronshire to Grafton and west to Kyogle.

Individuals, their carers or other community agencies can refer for this service

The cost is minimal dependant on the location and in most cases the support offered will have no charge connected to the service dependant on locationand the support requested

Social support aims to assist and support individuals and their carers to participate in community life, gain companionship from others in the community including the social activities, hobbies and interests, home visits, assisting with shopping, library visits, and other related activities. 

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Goals:

Clients are offered the opportunity to socialize and participate in recreational, leisure activities out and about in their community. To assist individuals to remain independent living in their own homes with companionship on a one-on-one basis with community volunteers.

Companionship is the antidote to loneliness, by bringing variety and spontaneity into people’s lives and supporting the unpredictable interactions and happenings to take place which is the antidote to boredom and the promotion of self-esteem and healthy active ageing in our community

Referrals can be received by phone or CIARR. After receiving the referral the client is contacted and an appointment is organized for an home visit to discuss the support, availability and explain the service to the client and family.

Individuals living alone, isolated from community activities
